What is a Powder Metallurgy Bushing?

Also known as a sintered bushing, this component is produced by compacting precision metal powders into a mold and sintering them at high temperatures.

The unique manufacturing process creates a controlled porous structure within the metal matrix. These microscopic pores are vacuum-impregnated with lubricant oil, which is released during operation to create a hydrodynamic film, ensuring long-term self-lubrication without external maintenance.

-20°C to +120°C Standard Temp Range
≤ 2.5 m/s Sliding Speed
Microscopic view of sintered metal structure

Microscopic pores store up to 30% oil by volume.

Engineering Benefits

Why Switch to Sintered Bronze/Iron?

Self-Lubricating

Oil-impregnated pores release lubricant automatically during rotation, reducing friction and eliminating the need for external greasing.

Mass Production Consistency

The sintering process ensures excellent dimensional repeatability. Ideal for high-volume automotive and appliance manufacturing.

Cost Efficiency

Near-net-shape manufacturing minimizes material waste and machining time compared to solid turned metal bushings.

Material Options

We select the precise powder composition based on your load, speed, and environmental requirements.

  • Fe
    Iron-Based

High strength, lower cost. Good for moderate loads.

  • Cu
    Bronze-Based (Copper)

Excellent corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity.

  • C
    Fe-Cu Composite

    Balanced performance and cost efficiency.

Customization Available

  • • Graphite enhancement for dry running
  • • Resin impregnation for sealing
  • • Special synthetic oils (High Temp)

Comparison: When to Choose Powder Metallurgy?

Bushing Type Ideal Scenario Cost (Vol) Maintenance
Powder Metallurgy (Sintered) High volume, medium load, hard-to-reach areas requiring self-lubrication. Low None (Self-Lube)
Solid Bronze (Cast/Turned) High load, severe impact, dirty environments (with grease grooves). High Regular Greasing
Bimetal / Wrapped Heavy load + Thin wall requirements. Medium Periodic
